Cape to Cairo and Other Journeys

Session description:

A look at Transcontinental fibre routes and where we are now. Examples of interconnection and peering across the major trans-continental routes that are in place.

Take a look at progress of interconnectivity Cape to Cairo, and some live demonstrations of pings and traceroutes from one to the other (since the conference will be in Cape Town this is very appropriate) using different network providers available in Cape Town.

Discussion of the underlying infrastructure that exists and does link Cape to Cairo, and discussion on why a lot of the packets will be travelling via Europe to get to Cairo.

Taking a look at other North/South and East West potential pathways and examining their viability
o Mombasa to Kinshasa
o Casablanca to Cairo
o Dakar to Djibouti
o Cape to Casablanca

Take a look at the data and interconnection hubs that are there, and where the new ones will be emerging.
