Lightning Talks & IXP Updates

Session description:

KINIX – This presentation describes the unfortunate events that contributed to the slowdown in KINIX’s growth momentum. This is the fire and the forced relocation. Then she shows how ISPA-DRC is organized to deal with these two events while indicating the various challenges. Finally, it presents the lessons learned from both these experiences for the growth of an IXP. PeeringDB has been around since 14 years. And an entry in PeeringDB is a must have if you want to interconnect with other networks. There is no other DB where you have all the information about networks, Internet Exchange Points and Facilities/Colocation at one place and nicely interlinked.

INX-ZA – Overview of the work being done in the INX-ZA space

GIX – Most IXP’s in developing countries in Africa share similar challenges. Most of these challenges can even to traced to as far as even how the Exchange Point was formed, commercial modules, access etc. The Ghana Internet Exchange Point, as one of the early Exchange Points in Africa has learnt a lot lessons, some of which would be shared in this panel discussion at Afpif 2018.

As PeeringDB is so important an Seattle (US) based association was set up in late 2015. In March 2016 a wholly new version of PeeringDB (PeeringDB 2.0) was released with an intuitive GUI and a powerful API. This presentation gives a quick overview on PeeringDB, both from organisation as well as from a technical point of view and highlights the latest developments. This is a draft presentation and will be updated with latest before the meeting.
