I consider myself to be a strong willed, vibrant and motivated young professional currently employed at Mobile Telephone Networks (Pty) Ltd (“MTN”) as a Special Regulations and Consumer Specialist in the Regulatory Affairs department. I have been working at MTN for 8 years and in this tenure I have served different roles in both commercial legal and regulatory affairs departments.
I have firmly established myself as a notable Regulatory Specialist to, among others, review policies/ draft regulations, prepare submissions to draft policies and regulations, manage litigation and represent MTN at alternative dispute resolution hearings, provision of legal opinions and stakeholder relationship management. After successfully completing a certificate course in Telecommunications and Policy Regulation Management at the University of the Witwatersrand in 2015, I recently started reading towards my Master’s Degree in the field of ICT Policy and Regulation at the same institution. The focus subject of my research report is on ICT Innovation and how synergies can be created between government, academia and the private sector to grow the SMME market in South Africa.
As an emerging market, I believe Africa is well positioned to adopt and develop technological innovation in ICT as the impetus for economic development provided policy makers employ the right strategies for ICT related policies and adopt a new regulatory paradigm shift.
