Jabulani Vilakazi - A Digital Entrepreneur and an Internet activist


Jabulani Vilakazi has an Electronics background from studying Electronics at the Johannesburg Technical College in 1998 as part of Pre tertiary education. Completed his N6 in light current in 1999 and began his career in the telecoms industry working for Telkom. In 2004 he was doing his BA in Internet Communications at the Midrand Graduate Institute, later was accredited with the Mikrotik Network Administrator Certificate after completing the course. He spent seven years with MTN South Africa providing data support as a full time job.

He is a founder of Soweto Wireless User Group (SOWUG), an NGO established in 2010 providing Free Wi-Fi in Soweto. In 2013 and 2014 he was part of the executive team with the Wireless Access Providers Association (WAPA) and he was responsible for the development portfolio. WAPA is one of the founding members of the Foundation for Internet Development (FID). His currently in the executive team with the Internet Society Gauteng chapter and a technical director for the Foundation for Internet Development
