Taryn Uhlmann - Executive Head: Operations and Marketing


Taryn Uhlmann is a content and marketing specialist in the entertainment industry, with specific experience in both traditional and digital entertainment and their respective consumption platforms namely cinema, DVD, TV, VOD and IPTV.
An academic at heart, Taryn values research, teaching, learning and gleaning and interpreting insights, informed by an astute understanding of diverse South African audiences’ consumer behaviour and psychographics. It is however the coming together of the creative space and business that has really inspired her career.
She has a post-graduate diploma in business administration and Masters in History, focusing on propaganda and the persuasive use of film and television as a political tool and this led to extensive work in the local film industry, initially at Sithengi, the film and Television Market and Cape Town World Cinema Festival identifying projects for script development and co-financing, managing the HIVOS international film fund and eventually managing the business market’s operations. Thereafter, she moved into the Marketing Manager role for Local content for Ster Kinekor Distribution. In 2009 she became the Marketing Manager for Warner Bros. Pictures in South Africa, at Times Media Films and after six years she became the GM of Marketing for the newly formed video on demand service, VIDI
In 2015, she was approached by Discover Digital to take on their Executive Head of Operations and Marketing role, where she oversees the account management of Discover’s various clients including MTN locally and other Telcos throughout Africa. Her role also includes sourcing and licensing local and international content and overseeing the marketing of Discover’s own video on demand and IPTV offering, launching at the end of 2017.
