Siyabonga Africa is a digital media specialist at the SABC, as well as a data journalist in their Digital News division. As a part of their editorial process SABC Digital News tries to produce data driven stories that Siyabonga heads up.
Outside of the SABC Siyabonga Africa is an executive committee member of Hacks/Hackers Johannesburg, a collective of journalists and technologists who work together on cross-platform narratives whether they be data driven stories and apps or interactive projects.
In the past Siyabonga Africa was awarded a Ford Foundation Scholarship to study at Indiana University where he acquired his masters in digital media. And is the 2007 recipient of the Aggrey Klaaste bursary to study journalism at Stellenbosch University.
