Archive: Mngani Mkhize

Mngani Mkhize grew up in Adams Mission on the south coast of KwaZulu Natal and  studied Electronic Engineering at the Durban University of Technology. After training at the Denel Centre for Learning and Development he then worked for a broadcaster in 2005, dealing with satellite and microwave links contribution systems around the country, which extended to  a few other countries in Africa as well.

Mngani now works as a Broadcast Systems Technician focussing on station automation, DTT and signal distribution around the company’s various departments, regions and other broadcasting companies via satellite, microwave, ATM and IP systems.  He is currently studying towards a BTech in Electronic Engineering at the Johannesburg University and is also involved in self study and  attending short courses to expand his knowledge in the field.

Mngani has been interested in computers since his early days at high school and his first experience in using a computer and the Internet came a few years later when Internet cafés eventually started opening up in 2000.  This has been one of his passions ever since.

Mngani believes that everybody should have access to the Internet and has helped most of his friends to connect.  He says that this is easier in the urban areas where he now lives but unfortunately not so easy in the rural areas where he grew up.

He is currently in the process of trying to start a company that can assist rural communities to connect and hopefully benefit from the changes happening in the telecommunication industry.
