Nathan Stooke - Vice President: WISPA

As CEO and founder of Wisper ISP I have spent the last 10 years building Wisper into an industry leading WISP. We have provided high speed Internet service to thousands of happy customers, many of them in rural areas where previous service had been spotty or nonexistent.

I was selected as a “Top 30 Under 30″ by the St. Louis Business Journal and named on the list of the “Top 100 St. Louisans to Know” by the St. Louis Small Business Monthly. In 2011, I made the decision to pour the profits back into our network and upgrade the entire infrastructure, giving current customers increased bandwidth at no additional cost. At Wisper, our commitment to service has helped cultivate loyal customers as well as a dedicated workforce. Most of my original employees are still employed with Wisper, lending a combined 150 years of experience in the industry.

My love and passion for this field has led me to be very active in the Wireless Internet Service Providers Association (WISPA). WISPA promotes the development, advancement and unification of the wireless Internet service provider industry. I have proudly served as a board member for the last year and for the past 4 years have been actively involved in the Educational planning committee for our semi-annual conferences held throughout the United States.

I have a unique love for Africa and specifically South Africa, since my wife is from Centurion, South Africa. My first visit was in 1998, well before I started a WISP. I have seen Internet services go from nonexistent, to pay by the minute dial-up, to Unlimited DSL. The lack of telecom infrastructure and the true rugged beauty of the African landscape lend it to being a great place for WISPs to thrive. I see huge opportunities for WISPs, even better than those in the United States.
