Chris Althaus - CEO: Australian Mobile Telecommunications Association


Chris Althaus was appointed as Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Mobile Telecommunications Association (AMTA) in 2005.

AMTA is the peak national body representing Australia’s mobile telecommunications industry and operates programs covering telecommunications policy, infrastructure (networks and spectrum), health / safety, recycling and law enforcement / national security. AMTA’s mission is to promote an environmentally, socially and economically responsible and successful mobile telecommunications industry in Australia. AMTA members include mobile Carriage Service Providers (CSPs), handset manufacturers, network equipment suppliers, retailers and other suppliers to the industry.

In 2013, the role and influence of mobile broadband in Australia’s economy is a central theme for AMTA. The Association’s programs are focused creating an understanding of the economic, social and environmental opportunities and potential of mobile broadband – including industry’s needs re infrastructure policy, legislative reform and regulatory frameworks in a period of unprecedented demand for mobile broadband services in Australia’s rapidly evolving digital economy.

Prior to joining AMTA Mr Althaus held Chief Executive roles in leading national industry associations representing the Australian road transport and logistics industry and the Australian forests and forest products sector.

Mr Althaus has a Bachelor of Science from the Australian National University; Graduate Diploma in Economics from the University of Canberra; and Business Administration Diploma from Georgetown University, Washington, DC.

Like any self respecting Aussie sports fan Chris enjoys the rivalry with the Proteas and Springboks but has yet to fully appreciate the VuVuZela!
